Life Legacy

Georgann Simpson Gasaway was born on July 6, 1938 in Kansas City, Missouri to George and Ann Simpson and was welcomed into her heavenly home on July 22, 2012.

Georgann attended Will Rogers High School in Tulsa, OK, graduating in 1956. After graduation, Georgann attended the University of Tulsa and received a BME Degree with an emphasis in Piano Performance and Piano Pedagogy. While at the TU, Georgann met and later married, Donald Eugene Gasaway.

Georgann was the loving mother and grandmother of two children and six grandchildren - Scott Gasaway and his wife Lisa, and their two children Katie and Ryan; Patti Gasaway Osburn and her husband Tony, and her four children John Thomas, Michael, Rachel and Carlie Robertson; and her two loyal dachshunds Brandy and Eddie.

Other than her family, Georgann dedicated her life to enriching the lives of all ages with music through teaching piano. After graduation, she first honed her teaching training at the New School For Music Study in Princeton, New Jersey. Upon completion, she returned to the University of Tulsa to develop the Piano Pedagogy degree program at the university under the tutelage of her mentor, Richard Chronister. Beginning in 1969, Georgann opened the New Piano Preparatory School here in Tulsa and continued to teach generations of students, young and old, until her death.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Georgann Gasaway Music Memorial fund they are setting up to benefit Marquette School’s music program. The proceeds will be used to purchase new equipment, fund visiting artists as well as provide financial support to students who wish to pursue music but could otherwise not participate due to financial constraints. Donations can be mailed to Marquette School, 1519 S. Quincy, Tulsa, OK 74120, with the memo line stating Georgann Gasaway Memorial Music Fund.
